Home Care
Brushing and flossing are the two words that can describe preventative dental home care. For children the process is the same but adult supervision is required due to distractions and sometimes they are simply too young to understand the importance of healthy teeth and gums. Proper instructions by the parents from the time they are small as well as constant vigilance can be the solution.
A parent should start flossing their child's teeth once their teeth become close enough to touch. This can be done quickly and gets the child accustomed to flossing. If started early enough this can get them to think brushing and flossing as activities that go together, it's usually easier to floss your child's teeth since they have fewer than an adult mouth.
If your child sees you brushing your teeth they will probably want to brush theirs as well since children love to do what others are doing. It's likely they will not brush properly but their interest maybe encouraging. You will want to help out until you see that they can do i t themselves that way you are supportive about their interest in doing it themselves. Making brushing and flossing a regular part of the daily routine can go a long way toward getting kids to follow in your footsteps so make sure you stay on the same route. Your kids will be on their way to a healthy habit that lasts a lifetime when you make it regular and fun!
